Little Pilgrims

The following is an extract from the Annual Report (2019-2020) for Elstow Abbey.

This page will be updated

Little Pilgrims continued to flourish during 2019, with up to twenty children plus their carers meeting on a regular basis on Tuesday mornings during term time from 10.00 – 11.30am. The format remained the same (a wide variety of play experiences, a craft activity, ride-on toys etc.) with a story time/singing session after a healthy snack. We have changed the venue of the craft activities and the story/song time to the area by the font to increase accessibility and participation and to enable us to use the display as a story board to link activity and story.

Most of the children come regularly, and it is a joy to watch them grow and develop, form relationships with each other and with the adults, and for the adults to get to know one another better. We were sad to bid farewell to our older leavers as they started school in September, but are delighted to welcome several new children, including a number of babies.

Highlights have included playing outside during the summer, a Christmas Party with a visit from Santa, and most recently pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.  Lock-down interrupted our meetings in March 2020, but we managed to keep in touch with most families via social media or email. A few of us ‘met’ virtually via Zoom, and it was good to see both adults and children increase in confidence as they learned to use the technology! We look forward to meeting again face to face as soon as it seems safe to do so.

It is hoped that Little Pilgrims will continue to feed into Pilgrims’ Praise and the All-Age Worship and will be a point of entry for Baptism families and members of our wider community.
